Objective 3.1 Develop the next generation of community forestry stakeholders.
On March 26th and 27th, the Texas A&M Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry participated in Farm Day at the Fair by highlighting its partners with planes, jobs available in forestry and urban forestry and some of the tools used by foresters and arborists. Civil Air Patrol, First Lieutenant Daniel Harris, and TAMFS Urban Forester, Mike Sills, talked to students about the utilization of aviation in forestry.
Dallas ISD elementary students, totaling 350, heard about the importance of urban forestry and were able to see firsthand, some of the tools used by arborists and urban foresters. The following day, 350 students from Dallas ISD high schools participated in discussions about potential career opportunities and how urban forestry relies on partnerships such as the Civil Air Patrol and Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council to assist in advocating for the management of urban forests.




Michael is a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. He received his B.S in Recreation Administration in 2005 and went to work for the City of Grand Prairie, Texas right after graduation. Michael serves as Secretary of TBUFC and provides technical support for the organization.
